Botany Department

Department of Botany, Arya PG College Panipat was started in 1967 as Biology Department. In the Year 1971-72, B.Sc. Classes were started in the College and Botany and Zoology Department got separated from the same Session. Prof. Sachdeva take over the Charge of Head of the Botany Department. After Him Dr. S. S. Lal Joined in the College in July 1974 and assigned the duties as Head of the Department. Under his supervision and Guidance Department progressed a lot. In the year 2006 Dr. Balkar Singh joined the College and since then working as Head of the Department.

Botany Department is one of the Major Department of the College with all modern facilities of Teaching and Research. Our department has the honour to produce lots of Teachers, Scientists, Doctors, Administrators, Judges, Lawyers and Entrepreneurs, who had served and serving the Nation in many capacities. Botany Department is well recognized throughout the country for its societal contributions, activities and programmes. It is an environment friendly department and providing guidance/consultancy for Biodiversity Documentation & conservation, Organic waste management, Tree Plantation, Kitchen Gardening, Floriculture activities etc.

Activities

Flower Show, Horticulture training is being held every year in the College by Botany Department
We are creating awareness about conservation and documentation of Biodiversity during our programmes. Faculty members of the department are associated with many Professional bodies and Citizen Science groups like eFloraofindia.
Different excursions tours are being organized every year by faculty members for our own college students as well as Scientists, Researchers and Environmentalists from other organizations. We have honour to organize over a dozen such tours to destinations like Valley of Flowers, Hemkund Sahib, Chakrata region, Shimla region, Chopta, Tungnath region, Chudeshwer Mahadev region, Banjar Valley region, Munsiari, Gori Valley region, Dhanolty region, Lansdowne region, Nainital, Bhimtal, Bhowali region and many more.
We are also dealing with Environmental Issues like awareness about bad effects of Rice straw burning, providing Medicinal plants free to our students and general public also every year during our annual flower show, tree plantation drive in Campus and in nearby areas, Save Water campaign, Use of household organic waste by converting it into compost, Noise Pollution reduction awareness, Rain Water harvesting awareness and minimum use of paper and polythene etc.
